Costa Mesa firefighters responded to a call explaining there was report of a crash on the southbound 55 freeway near Victoria Street and that someone was hurt around five p.m. Costa Mesa Fire Department Captain Christ Coates commented that the driver was a man around 30 years old, he was trapped inside his vehicle with a female passenger also in her 30s but she was able to escape on her own.

Coates added that the driver had to be cut out of the Corvette, and that the difficult task took about half an hour.

“It was almost like a game of Jenga when you’re attempting to remove the bottom pieces without trying to topple the top,” Coates replied.

The driver was evacuated to Orange County Global Medical Center with serious but not any life-threatening injuries.

California Highway Patrol officials are still unsure how the big Ford F-150 ended up above the red Corvette, but the accident halted traffic, which was already slow due to the Orange County Fair.

California Highway Patrol officers reported to the scene at around 5 p.m. and issued a SigAlert for about two hours and reported that there were multiple cars that were blocking lanes.

All lanes were declared open at about 7 p.m.
